RED CROSS PRESCHOOLS

Preschool is a rewarding water experience for adults with young children. It introduces infants and toddlers to the joys of water activity while developing basic skills, and teaches parents/ caregivers how to ensure safety at all times.


STARFISH
- Holding head up to 18 months old. The goal of this orientation to water class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries and songs and play in water.

DUCK - 18 to 30 months.Toddlers build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play.

SEA TURTLE - 30 to 36 months. This level develops skills in swimming, glides and floating.

Do we wear diapers in the water?
No they are not allowed in the pool. You can wear a plastic pant or a swim pant.

BRONZE STAR

Bronze star is the pre-BRONZE Medallion training standard and excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants work on problem solving, decision-making skills and develop water smart confi dence. They learn CPR and the lifesaving skills. Candidates who hold a Bronze Star may proceed directly to Bronze Medallion regardless of their age. This award is a defi nite asset for those who have not yet reached the minimum age for Bronze Medallion.

ASSISTANT WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR


Eight hours hands-on teaching experience required. Additional teaching hours may be assigned if deemed necessary by the Instructor/Trainer.

AQUATEER - VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES

If you are 11 years or older and working on your Aquaquest 8 or higher, get a head start by enrolling as an aquateer. Becoming an aquatic volunteer allows you to gain valuable experience assisting in helping young children learn to swim and being part of a team atmosphere. It looks great on a resume and you will receive volunteer hours to be used towards gift certificates to the Memorial Sports Centre.

BRONZE MEDALLION
AND EMERGENCY FIRST AID

This course develops physical fitness, decision-making and judgment skills for water rescue. First aid, rescue breathing, tows, carries and releases are some of the skills covered. Successful completion of this course is the prerequisite for further aquatic training.
